LinkedIn for Recruitment Briefing at APSCo M Squared [Slides]

apsco m square linkedin recruitment

Here’s a LinkedIn for Recruitment briefing presentation I delivered at APSCo and M Squared in London this week. My brief was to talk about the bigger picture as in stats, why people use LinkedIn, the future AND to throw in some tips and tricks there.

It’s a challenge to squeeze lots of content into a briefing but this was my attempt which stimulated a good conversation around how agencies use LinkedIn and social media in general.

If you are interested in learning more about LinkedIn for Recruitment professionals, have a look at our LinkedIn for Recruiters Masterclass at Covent Garden.

Any questions, just tweet us or ping an email.

How a Recruiter Made a 20k Placement from One Blog Post [Case Study]

Peter Cosgrove CPL poster boy

CPL is one of Ireland’s biggest and most successful recruitment companies. They operate across Europe and mainly recruit professionals in the finance, IT, sales and marketing sectors.

CPL started blogging in 2010

Like at most recruitment companies nowadays, CPL have had a push for social media marketing and their internal social media team started blogging a couple of years ago. The idea was to get the recruiters themselves to blog about their niche, to be seen as industry experts to their clients and candidates.

Great idea but the challenge is to actually get busy recruiters to write blog posts. Peter Cosgrove of CPL says ‘like with all things with recruiters it led to the usual resistance – “I have no time”, “what’s the point” etc.’

But they persevered and genuinely tried …

LinkedIn and the Talent Economy: Every Employee is a Recruiter

This is a post written by Dan ShaperoVice President, LinkedIn Hiring Solutions.

Like many functions in the organization, the way in which companies identify and recruit talent has changed more in the past 10 years than it did in the last century. According to Jobvite, 89 percent of companies planned to use social media to recruit in 2011, a source of talent that didn’t even exist at the start of the century. This trend has big implications for both the recruitment profession and the ways companies compete and win overall. But what forces are driving this change, and what can we learn from the companies pioneering this age of recruiting?

Over the past 100 years, there has been a fundamental shift in the way companies compete. Historically, the market winners were those who had access to capital and financing. With capital, you …

Social Media Seminar at the Confederation of British Industry [Slides]

cbi social media london

Last week I had the pleasure of delivering a social media seminar to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) in London, all about Trade Associations.

This is the first time I have ever trained trade associations and their management teams. Their marketing efforts on social media and online in general aren’t that straightforward as you would think.

Yes they have to recruit new members and tell existing members about how useful the association is, basically what value they can add to the member companies. Then they also want to communicate with the press, basically putting out stories about the industry and hopefully getting some good write-ups in traditional media (which is where most of the end-customers consume news still). Finally, they want to use social media as a lead generation tool for their member companies. This means they can …

How Nurseries Can Use Social Media to Recruit Practitioners and Senior Staff

recruiting in social media for nurseries

This is an interview by Sue Churchill talking to Jorgen Sundberg of Link Humans, published in the January 2012 edition of Nursery Management Today.

So, are you on LinkedIn? Do you tweet? Do you spend time on Facebook, perhaps? I’m not advocating contacting your ‘friends’ in spare moments at work, but using social media as a business tool. Already, many organisations have absorbed social media into their marketing and PR: according to Newtek Business Services, 57 per cent of businesses use them to attract new customers – and that could mean parents – while 58 per cent chat with customers to boost their visibility and build closer relationships.

But what has this got to do with recruiting? First, the traditional ways of recruiting are simply not working well enough. Sadly, sales of local papers are slumping. …

How To Use Social Media for Job Searching [Interview with Joshua Waldman]

Know any jobseekers out there? Are they struggling on social media? Then look no further than Joshua Waldman’s new book “Job Searching with Social Media for Dummies“.

I had a chat with Joshua the other day to get some pearls of wisdom for jobseekers out there. In this interview we discuss how important Personal Branding and LinkedIn are, the power of blogging for applicants and how to craft an effective career strategy.

Joshua’s top three tips to jobseekers are:

1. Make sure you look good online (you wouldn’t go to an interview naked).

2. Bring your online relationships offline and speak to people in person and on the phone.

3. Have a strategy, it’s easy to get lost on social media and missing the bigger picture.

You can connect with Joshua at @joshuawaldman and his blog Career Enlightenment. Enjoy the interview and we would …

Employer Branding Presentation at Recruiting through Social Media

I had the pleasure of presenting branding (employer and a bit of personal) at Recruitment International’s Recruiting through Social Media conference at BDO in London yesterday.

Big thanks to the audience which consisted of 100 recruiters and employers, the organisers and my fellow presenters.

Here is the slide deck I used, any questions at all you know where to find me. And yes, the Swedish flag is to dispel any notion of me being German, Danish or South African :-)
