How to Boost Instagram Marketing for B2B Brands

Instagram is 6 years old this October and has over 400 million monthly active users. Social media is becoming ever more visual. 93% of the most engaged posts on Facebook include images (source). So why not use Instagram – the original image sharing social media?

You may think it’s all pictures of people’s lunches and cute animals but you’ll be surprised that there are many B2B companies who can see the potential of Instagram for marketing and brand enhancement. Here’s 5 tips on how to best use Instagram for your company as well as some examples of B2B brands that are doing it really well.

1. Geek chic:

Don’t be afraid to show off what you do on Instagram. You may think because you’re a B2B company that your products or services are too boring for the masses to enjoy, but lots of people WILL be interested in your products/services. Let’s take a look at Nasa for example, they have over 1.3 million followers on Instagram:

You can post educational or instructional photos to showcase what you do best. Choose a great filter and the best caption for your photo for maximum impact and engagement.

2. Be creative:

OK, so if you’re struggling to find different ways to showcase your products or services then you’ll need to start thinking outside the box. Don’t be too insular, instead of showcasing only yourself, try to relate what you do to other events or interests that people may have. That way you can bring people to your Instagram account that aren’t necessarily looking for you. Let’s take Cisco, for example, they’ve been really creative with their products in this post on May 4th:

Use relevant hashtags and see what other Instagram users are doing. There may be an interesting conversation that you can get involved with.

3. Use video:

Bring your Instagram account to life with videos! 40% of the most shared Instagram videos are posted by brands (source). So if your brand isn’t posting videos – why not? Videos can allow you to be a lot more witty and creative than static photos as Oracle take advantage of with their Instagram:

If you’re stuck for content, videos are a great way of showcasing what you or your company do. They can also bring a personality to your brand. If your company is already using YouTube then you can post snippets of content you already have and direct followers to the longer versions. Videos are also a great way of recording events that you may be holding and even demonstrations of your products/services or how you work.

Instagram videos are only 15 seconds long so make sure you get your message across quickly!

4. Employee engagement:

Getting your employees involved is probably the easiest yet most rewarding way of increasing engagement on your Instagram. Some B2B companies make the most of this and post nothing else but their employees’ activities. This can showcase your company’s culture. Deloitte Digital’s Instagram posts, for example, are centred around office life and their employees:

Find out if your employees have their own personal Instagram account and find ways that you can communicate with them on their. Comment on and like their photos from your brand account. This will not only spread your reach but boost relationships within your company and make you look good.

5. Out of Office Hours

All work and no play? It’s important for people to have a rounded view of your company and brand. While it’s great to showcase how you work, it can also be useful for people to see a more “fun” side to your company.

The best way for your audience to get to know your brand is to get to know you. If you can, take your Instagram “out of the office” to showcase to followers some of what you or your employees get up to. Having a work party, drinks or event? Be to sure to take your smart phone with you to take some snaps – this can be a great thing to do if you’re stuck for content.

Most importantly, be natural and have fun. People will see through it if you’re trying too hard!
