What the data says about employer brand
Independent analysis drawn from the Employer Brand Index — public commentary from talent, scored consistently across companies, countries and years so findings can be compared rather than asserted.
Latest study
−4 pts
Drop in positive commentary about Management & Organization in the quarter a layoff is announced — widening to roughly 6 points within two quarters, with no recovery in the window observed.
How layoffs affect employer brand: analysis of 13 layoff events, 2022–2026
- 01The pattern held across events. Every event followed for two quarters showed a decline, as did every one followed for three.
- 02Damage may begin before the announcement. Sentiment was already falling a quarter earlier, by around 2 points — the least robust finding in the study.
- 03Layoff size explained little. The share of headcount affected showed little relationship to the size of the decline.
- 04Tone changed, not volume. The share of conversation about Management & Organization did not move; what people said about it did.
